Docent Tour Volunteer Orientation

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library seeks volunteers interested in joining our team of dynamic docent tour leaders. Share the unique history and features of this first-of-its-kind collaborative library. Position requires one year of volunteer commitment following a free, 6-session training course. Orientation attendees must be available to attend additional training sessions on September 12, 19, 26 and October 3, 10 from 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM.

Open-Forum: Conversations on Activism on Heroes and Heroines of the Civil Rights Movement

During the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, San Jose State University student activists and community members protested housing discrimination and held demonstrations for the rights of African Americans in solidarity with southern demonstrations and for the rights of all oppressed minorities. San Jose State University will honor alumni civil rights movement veterans in celebration of its 150th anniversary. Civil rights movement veterans will share their experiences of San Jose's and the Nation's Civil Rights struggle. The Special Collections department will also be hosting an exhibit of photographs, buttons and memorabilia from the Library’s Special Collections. This event will kick off the King Library Special Collection’s First Thursday series, which will be the last of the University’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
